Landesverband der Jüdischen Gemeinden von Schleswig-Holstein, K.d.ö.R.
The Regional Council of the Jewish Congregations of Schleswig-Holstein was founded in 2002. Since then it has been a Member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism. In January 2005, a five-year treaty of financial support was concluded between the two Regional Councils in Schleswig-Holstein and the Land Schleswig-Holstein. Since November 2005, the Regional Council has been a member of the Zentral der Juden in Deutschland (Central Council of Jews in Germany – www.zentralratdjuden.de)
Nowadays the following 5 congregations are organized in the Regional Council:
Jewish Congregation of Ahrensburg-Stormarn Jewish Congregation of Bad Segeberg Jewish Congregation of Elmshorn Jewish Congregation of Kiel Jewish Congregation of Pinneberg
The congregations’ number of members range between about 30 and 180. Rabbi Dr. Walter Rothschild has been appointed as Rabbi of all 5 congregations. Within the Regional Council the congregations are autonomous. The Regional Council represents the congregations towards central Jewish and governmental organizations only with regard to political matters.
The work within the congregations and the Regional Council is mostly done by volunteers. The Regional Council supports this work for example with regular meetings, financial support, and a quarterly newsletter named “Juedisches Schleswig-Holstein” as common platform.
Due to this structure there is a very vibrant and well-developed communication between our congregations on the one hand and between them and the Regional Council on the other hand. Flexibility, openness, mutual support and help are our way to success.
